Principal Slater

Dear Dale City Elementary School Families,

I am humbled and excited to be named the principal of Dale City Elementary School. I hit the ground running early this morning, and I look forward to learning more about our staff members, students and their families, and the culture of our school.

I want to share a little bit about my background. I have more than 10 years of experience in education, serving in an administrative capacity at Fred M. Lynn Middle School since 2018, most recently serving as assistant principal. While at Fred Lynn Middle, I directly supervised all facets of the school's special education compliance with local and federal laws and coordinated all student services and instructional processes related to our support of English Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) students. I also helped monitor attendance data to improve student attendance, supported teachers in creating a new discipline process for students, and coordinated and lead professional development aligned with goals in our School Improvement Plan.

Previously, I taught sixth grade at Fred Lynn, and second and fourth grades at Occoquan Elementary School, where I also served as a team leader. I love youth sports, previously managing a sports plex in North Carolina and other programs supporting the development of youth athletes in soccer, basketball, and volleyball. I grew up in a small town outside of Pittsburgh, PA and am the oldest of 5 kids. I've been married for 9 years to my amazing wife! I enjoy playing soccer, taking my 2 dogs hiking, going to concerts, and trying new foods!

I look forward to serving as the leader of Dale City Elementary School, and plan to build upon the excellence that has been created here. I hope to meet each of you soon, and would like to thank you in advance for your patience and support during this transition period.

Sincerely,

Brian Slater Principal
