December 2, 2024- Changes to school operations may occur due to inclement weather and other events that cause hazardous conditions. The scope, duration, and impact of these closures and modifications can vary significantly.
Prince William County Public Schools has protocols to manage these situations, including Code Red, Code Green, Code Orange, as well as options for delayed openings and early dismissals.
PWCS revised Regulation 405-1, “School Closing Due to Hazardous Conditions,” to state that Code Orange may be implemented if school buildings must close and operate virtually for an extended period, such as five or more school days. It is important for all staff and students to be prepared for remote work or learning when necessary.
Visit the PWCS website for additional information on the Hazardous Conditions Codes page and cancellation procedures to see how delayed openings or school closings may affect schools and activities and employee workdays. For additional information, refer to the FAQs page.
